Shropshire entrepreneur offers an 'ola!' to Portugal

Shropshire entrepreneur Peter WilliamsA Shropshire entrepreneur who is building a business based on green technologies in Portugal, is looking to share his experience by setting up a consultancy to help others with ambitions to export.

Peter Williams, from Muxton in Telford, has around 25 years’ experience of doing business in Portugal – particularly in the region most familiar to British tourists, the Algarve.

Previously he has worked in companies exporting across Europe as well as South Africa, Chile and Argentina and has sales and export experience in the training, transport and lighting sectors.

With his wife Karen, Peter ran a home cleaning and domestic servicing franchise until the onset of the recession, but he has since returned to the Algarve with a new venture, the Alga Company, supplying seaweed-based soil remediation, fertiliser and cleaning products across a number of areas including household, agriculture and marine.

In the hiatus between his Portuguese ventures, Peter worked as an international trade advisor for Shropshire Chamber of Commerce for two years and it is the combination of that background, plus his own trading experience that has led him to set up Anglo Portuguese Consultants to advise others looking to do business in Portugal.

Says Peter: “We're a hands-on consultancy with a base in Portugal, aiming to help businesses expand into a Portuguese economy that's been through tough times as many people will realise, but is not only now on the road to recovery, but has potential to open doors to business opportunities in places like Brazil, Mozambique and Angola."

Because we're based on the Algarve, we have our eyes and ears trained on discovering opportunities for UK businesses looking to export into Portugal – not only into the tourism-oriented south, but into the more industrial north, too. We can help identify potential markets and the people who make the important commercial decisions. We can arrange meetings, product trials and the like – and produce market reports for would-be exporters.

Peter's Portuguese base in Sao Bras de Alportel, around 10 miles north of the Algarve gateway, Faro, is close to transport links across the Algarve and north to Lisbon and beyond.

He says: “I will be dividing my time between the Algarve and the UK, and while I expect a lot of interest in the Alga Company products, particularly as we move towards the summer, I am very happy to share my experience with others chasing the dream of making a living in Portugal through Anglo Portuguese Consultants.”

Peter has launched a website for APC: www.exportportugal.info and the Alga Company can be found at www.thealgacompany.com.
