Guests included Incoming District Governor (IDG) Abílio Lopes, British Vice Consul Clive Jewell along with Rotarians and friends.

Bart van Linden, President of Silves Rotary, presented a check for over 2000€ to Margarida Trindade from UNIR – an association that takes care of those who are mentally disadvantaged.

Kristina, who is planning to specialize in hematology, thanked everyone for their support and offered to assist Rotary when possible.

At the event Rotarians Richard Bailey, Frits Lubbers, and Sheena Rawcliffe gave a presentation on Global Warming, offering suggestions on taking small steps to prevent what will become a disaster if we fail to act now. Through the presentation, Silves Rotary Club promoted the hope that Rotary International will, worldwide, take on the cause of carbon footprint reduction.

The current international focus – End Polio Now – has been a tremendous success with just a tiny number of cases reported to date in 2016 and Silves Rotarians are asking Rotary International to make Global Warming its next major focus.

IDG Abílio Lopes stated that he thought the initiative was a good one and coincidentally had recently been contacted by some Rotary Clubs in the USA which have similar projects in mind.

From the end of April information on the presentation and other Global Warming issues will be available at http://www.silvesrotaryclub.org/
