‘OBRIGADO BOMBEIROS’ raises over €3000 for local firefighters

‘OBRIGADO BOMBEIROS’ raises over €3000 for local firefightersA fundraising event held on 24th September was a roaring success and raised over €3000 for the Bombeiros of Lagoa and Silves.

Over 150 people attended the event at O'Grady's 12 Bar, Quinta da Figueirinha in Silves and enjoyed an afternoon of good food and entertainment. While event-goers tucked in to a Portuguese BBQ, local artists contributed by performing a variety of music from traditional to jazz, rock and classical.

Representatives from the Bombeiros were present and local companies and organisations showed their support by donating numerous quality items and services. Some were placed in a silent auction, while others were put under the hammer in a live auction. Event-goers bid generously for fine wines, pieces of art, golf days, spa days and even a taxi to anywhere in the Algarve. In addition, more cash was raised on the day by selling donated second hand goods.

The team of Portuguese and expat organisers plan to make ‘Obrigado Bombeiros’ an annual event. Speaking on behalf of the team, Eduardo Luís said: “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses and the support we received from people willing to give their time and talent to help make the event a success.” He concluded: We would like to thank everyone involved and all those who attended.”

The €3000 raised will be divided equally between the Bombeiros of Lagoa and the Bombeiros of Silves.
