News and Events from Arte AlgarveMore than one hundred and fifty guests attended last Thursday's Gala de Fado at Arte Algarve in Lagoa. It was a wonderful evening! Surrounded by hundreds of works of art, the music was a very special experience.

Norway’s National dayOn the 18th May, Norway’s National day was celebrated at Hotel Pestana Alvor Praia.

The event was attended by the Ambassadors from Norway, the Honorary Consul of Norway in the Algarve, some consuls, Portuguese local entities and Norwegian expats living in the Algarve.

British ConsulateFrom 1st May 2015 telephone numbers for the British Consulates in Portugal are changing. If you need assistance, consular staff can be contacted throughout the week on 21 392 4000 for the British Consulate in Lisbon, and 282 490750 for the British Vice Consulate in Portimao.

Our Consular team in Portugal is available to provide assistance Monday to Friday, from 9.00 am to 4.30pm. In an out of hours emergency these numbers will also connect you to the Foreign Office in London, where consular assistance is provided 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Prize-winning artist at Galeria Côrte-Real - Gregory Mason Synonymous with the Algarve coast – Gregory Mason paints dramatic sea and sky-scapes. A prize-winning artist at the ‘Applied Art Open Exhibition’ in the UK, his work can be seen exclusively in Portugal at Galeria Côrte-Real near Paderne. 

As always, only bright sunshine during Quinta dos Vales’ “Open Door”Despite heavy rains during the days before the event, Quinta dos Vales’ visitors were greeted at the “Open Door 12” with beautiful sunshine.

Last Sunday approximately 3,500 visitors strolled through the grounds of the estate, enjoying numerous dance and music events, both on the panoramic terrace above the sculpture garden as well as in the newly opened “Cave de Bacchus”. They also viewed and participated in art and handicraft workshops, new sculpture-paintings, several live paintings and ceramic works of befriended artists.

British Legion Events Across The AlgarveThe Portugal Branch of the British Legion is holding events across the Algarve later this month and into May.

These are open to everybody who appreciates the work of the British Legion and Britain’s armed forces, not just to retired military personnel, a significant number of whom live on the Algarve.
