Electric underfloor heating, some costs and benefits explained

One of the principle advantages of electric underfloor heating is that there are no oil or gas bills to worry about, just controllable electricity costs with NO additional annual maintenance costs. A diesel boiler service now costs an additional €120- €150 per year, and very expensive diesel oil is something to cost-in to your budget.

Operating costs of underfloor heating
With modern electric underfloor systems the installation cost for a system in a house with an area of 100 m2 will be around € 2,900, compared to a water-based heating system that will cost between € 7,000 and € 10,000.

For larger areas, installation costs for a house of 150 m2 will be an average of € 4550, and a larger area of 200 m2 will cost an average of € 9000, to install.

What's included in the installation package?
Firstly and importantly the installation of the insulation layer, using aluminum insulation foil with a high reflective properties, then the self learning intelligent thermostats we recommend Devi 550s - then the Devi cables themselves, with connection to the electricity supply, testing and setting all thermostats.

What is NOT normally included is the installation of electrical boxes, tubes and mains supply for the thermostats, and the final cement layer on top of the cables which your builder normally does. Be clear what is and is notincluded in your quote.

Operating costs?
Operating costs for electric underfloor heating systems are around €1.95 per heated m2 per month to maintain a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, less if you set the thermostat lower. The normal period for house heating is over the four winter months.

The intelligent thermostats ensure a perfect temperature performance and they work to reduce and minimize energy consumption.

Optimal comfort
The Deviheat system is modern, invisible, comfortable and maintenance-free, consisting of Deviflex electric heating cables and Devireg electric thermostats. The Deviflex heating cables are embedded under the flooring.

The only visible part of the installation will be electronic Devireg thermostats, which are sleek and unobtrusive. The cables are embedded 3 cm to 8 cm under the floor surface and provide a robust, maintenance-free heating installation.

How it works
Cables are laid approximately 16 cms apart according to the agreed optimum layout. Under the cables lies the reflective layer of aluminum insulation. This reflects 93.7% of the heat back to where you need it.
