Gibraltar FA's request rejectedFIFA has rejected the Gibraltar FA’s request to join the world’s footballing body after failing to recognise the British enclave as an independent territory. Gibraltar was officially welcomed into UEFA – the European football 'governing' body – last year and competed in their 1st competitive fixture in a Euro 2016 qualification game.
However, FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, said the "FA of Gibraltar cannot be accepted as a member of FIFA" because it contravened the "world governing body’s" statutes regarding independent territories. 

The Martinhal Triathlon - Oct 26In its role in supporting local tourism and great sporting and personal feats, the 5-star Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel will be hosting its first-ever Martinhal Triathlon on 26th October 2014! Surrounded by hectares of Natural Parks, national monuments, cliffs and beaches, the triathlon aims to give an amazing ride through Sagres and to take participants to “Finisterra” – the end of the world as the Europeans thought it until the 1400s.

The sea swimming will take place at Martinhal Beach while the run will take place around the resort. The bicycle route will take participants through the charming fishing village of Sagres along a route past the historical Fortress of Sagres, and Fort of Beliche, to the lighthouse at the Cape of St. Vincent – located at the Southwestern-most point in Europe!

First home game ends in success for Carvoeiro UnitedMore than 100 local fans watched as the newly formed Carvoeiro United FCCU won their first home game 1-0 against local rivals Mex. Grande FC.

Bad weather in the morning threatened to dampen the spirits of players and fans but the sun came out as the whistle blew for the opening of the game held at the stadium in Estômbar on October 11.

The Algarve Pirates – American-Style Football The Algarve Pirates are preparing for their third season the Portuguese American Football League (Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Americano).

Practices have begun on Tuesdays at 9pm and Thursdays at 9:30 pm at the Mexilhoeira Grande Sports Complex, between Portimao & Lagos. Tryouts (Captacoes) will continue thru October.
