Spain has the world’s best restaurant

spanishrestaurantAnother restaurant in Spain has captured the crown of best in the world and this time it is in the Basque region.

The pronouncement of restaurant winners for 2016 comes from travel review company Trip Advisor.

Restaurant Martin Berasategui, in Lasarte not far from San Sebastián, has held three Michelin stars since 2001.

It is the second consecutive year that the chef, whose restaurant takes his name, has secured the world's best title.

Reviews for the restaurant say there are a la carte and tasting menus of some 14 courses, both with innovative dishes which are unlikely to be found in other establishments.

The tasting menu offers small but delicious morsels. “We would destroy the spirit of these dishes if we served them in very large portions. I only conceive the dishes in small portions...with the brevity of three or four mouthfuls,” the menu explains.

His interpretation of modern Spanish cuisine, often looking more like art than food, encompasses seasonal variety and unique combinations. Fans of the former hit restaurant, El Bulli, will be familiar with the style of unique, often stunning mixtures of flavours and textures.

French restaurants Maison Lameloise and L’Auberge de I’lll took second and third places for the world list of best restaurants. Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons in the UK came in fourth.

The decision was based on reviews placed by diners on TripAdvisor and were reported to have been determined on the quantity and quality of reviews over a period of 12 months.
