Scot found buried on land in Guarda

funeralThe body of Alyn Pennycook, a Scot missing since September 2016, was found on Thursday at a property near Celorico da Beira, Guarda.

The man’s partner, Louise Khan, lived with him at the rural dwelling and has been arrested by police on suspicion of concealing his body and an investigation has started to ascertain the cause of death.

Locals say they had not seen the Pennycook man for several months and assumed either that he had travelled back to the UK for further cancer treatment or had simply gone missing.

The Judicial Police stated that a 46-year-old woman had been arrested for the improper disposal of a body and that the body was assumed to be that of her late husband, aged 59.

A forensic team is establishing the cause of death while the woman will be heard by a court in Guarda on the first charge.

The woman allegedly told an enquirer that her husband had dies and that he had been buried in Tábua when in fact he lay in a makeshift grave on their land.

Improper disposal of a body. Yet another sad jolt for so many memories amongst the older Portuguese in Portugal. How many hundreds (thousands?) of their loved ones remains lie still buried across remote parts of Portugal? Or were stuffed unceremoniously into an already occupied coffin awaiting burial.
