Illegal Portuguese cannery caught in Interpol-Europol swoop

interpolMore than 300,000 cans of canned fish products were seized in Portugal during an Interpol and Europol operation targeting modified and adulterated food and drink, that led also to the seizure of 26 million litres of alcohol.

The global Interpol and Europol operation seized €230 million of counterfeit food and drinks.

In Portugal, 311,000 cans of canned fish preserves were seized at a processing plant that already had had its license revoked for fraudulently repackaging products, according to France Presse.

This Interpol and Europol operation took place in 61 countries from December 2016 to March 2017.

Police seized nearly 26 million litres of adulterated alcohol, more than 9,800 tonnes of food and 26.4 million litres of other ‘dangerous products.’

The operation involved police, customs officers and food and drink inspectorate staff and targeted shops, markets, airports, ports and industrial areas.
