Matt Wallace wins Portugal Open at Morgado Golf Resort

mattWallaceEngland's Matt Wallace has won the Portugal Open at the Morgado Golf Resort near Portimão.

Wallace led from start to finish and claims his first European Tour title after a final round of 69 to finish ahead of  Julian Suri from the US.

Wallace finished on 21-under-par, "It's the best feeling ever," said the 27-year-old Londoner on lifting the trophy.

"Those first two days were really easy, that third day was the hardest day of my life and today was tough but it's so satisfying and I'm really happy."

Wallace hit 17 birdies on the first 36 holes and a level-par round on the third day left him three shots ahead of Sebastian Heisele.

Wallace becomes the second winner since 2013 to card three bogey-free rounds on his way to victory. He won six times on the Alps Tour last season to secure a place on the Challenge Tour, but now has a full European Tour card after just his fourth event at this level.
