A boy simply disappeared today, Sunday May 21st, at around 16:30 in the sea off the beach of São Torpes, in the Alentejo area of Sines.
The commander of the Maritime Police and the Sines Port Captain, Manuel Sá Coutinho, explained that the boy, who "is between 10 and 12-years-old," was in the water at the beach with his father. The father went back to the beach and after a few minutes no longer could see his son.
The alert was given around 16:30 and immediately, a patrolling Maritime Police search boat went to the spot.
Also, a semi-rigid lifeboat, two life-saving water bikes from the Sines Lifeguard Station and a helicopter from the Portuguese Air Force joined the search.
According to Manuel Sá Coutinho, the searches will continue between Sines and Porto Covo until visibility diminishes this evening or until the boy is found.
