A motorcyclist died on the Algarve's EN125 yesterday afternoon when his bike hit a car.
Bruno Gonçalves, 35, from Fuseta, died instantly after the collision in the Quatrim area of Olhão.
This was the 16th fatality on the region's roads since the beginning of the year, six more than in the same period in 2016.
The accident occurred at 13:00hrs in the middle of the EN125 in the Cavacos area of Quatrim, in the Olhão area. Gonçalves was on his way back to Fuseta when he seems to have hit a car that was going in the same direction.
An INEM team was soon in attendance but it was clear that the motorcyclist had died on impact. INEM psychologists also were at the scene to give support to the man's relatives who had been told of the accident and had rushed to the scene.
The driver of the car, 67, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Faro Hospital. The GNR also was at the scene as were members of the the Road Accident Crime Investigation team.
Bruno Gonçalves’ death is the 16th fatality on the Algarve’s roads this year compared with ten deaths over the same period of 2016.
There have been 76 people seriously injured on the region’s roads so far this year, compared to 59 in the same period of 2016.
