Two men hit by bulls at the Moita Festival

bullTwo men came off worse in a bull fighting event at the Moita Festivities, in honour of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem.

According to footage on social networks, one man was thrown by a bull but managed to get up and leave the rink without signs of injury.

The second man was flattened by a direct charge by the animal and had to be carried from the area to an ambulance and taken to hospital.

In September 2014, to men were killed in the festivities which take place every year in Moita in the Setúbal district.

The festival runs from the 8th to the 17th of September this year with music, an exhibition and fireworks, fun for all the family but no fun at all for the dumb animals used to provide much of the entertainment.

If bulls could talk, I am not sure that they would recognise the concept of "fun". They respond in an instinctive manner, and attack when they feel threatened. So they attempt to attack the cavaleiro; and they do attack the forcados. Not all forcados survive. One died after the pega in Cuba on 2 September this year.

All bulls end on the butcher´s slab. Some get there more quickly than others; and some get a chance to get their own back.

If we had a sustainable world food programme, we should have no bulls (or cows). We should have less methane, and more cereals for human consumption. And no Big Macs at all. Nor any bullfights.
