Portugal cuts diplomatic ties with North Korea

missilePortugal’s government has confirmed that in July, 2017, it severed diplomatic ties with North Korea as part of a concerted international efforts to have the country stop its nuclear and missile activities.

The Portuguese Embassy in Washington confirmed that severing its ties with North Korea, in line with the international community, was aimed at strengthening pressure in a bid to open dialogue on the path to abandoning its current nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.

The UN Security Council adopted new sanctions to restrict exports of crude oil and petroleum products to North Korea in retaliation for its sixth nuclear test.

North Korea faced isolation from the outside world as countries have declared various North Korean ambassadors persona non grata due to its unwillingness to halt nuclear and missile tests.
