Turismo de Portimão exhibits at the Birmingham Dive Show

diverPortimão council’s tourism arm, alongside Algarve based companies with activities related to diving, took a stand at the Birmingham Dive Show 2014, the largest diving event in the UK, held this week and attended by around 15,000 people over the two days.

The event started in 1991 and this year attracted over 250 stands taken by companies and tourist bodies from around the world.

Turismo de Portimão was promoting the Ocean Revival diving area off Alvor where four old Portuguese Navy ships have been sunk to attract marine life as well as divers.

The British are seen by the diving promoters as the main market opportunity and diving along the Algarve’s coastline as well as the Ocean Revival area is being promoted as part of the Algarve's ‘product diversification.’

The Algarve diving scene brings divers and their families who need accommodation, transport and catering and is all part of a new impetus to market the Algarve’s marine environment as a segment in its own right.
