Informal Brexit talks get underway

brexitLenThree key EU leaders are set to meet to discuss how the EU should react to the UK referendum vote to exit from the EU.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande will gather on an Italian island on Monday. They are the representatives of the EU’s three biggest economies.

That meeting comes three weeks in advance of an informal EU summit in Bratislava which is intended to discuss the EU’s course after Brexit. The UK is not included in this discussion.

The Italian island of Ventotene off Naples was chosen for the meeting because of its place in the history of the EU.

During WWII it was used as a prison for political opponents of Italy’s fascist regime.   While imprisoned there, Ernesto Rossi and Altiero Spinelli co-authored the “Ventotene Manifesto” calling for a European federation to bind countries together and prevent war.

Many view the manifesto as a prime force of the movement for European unification.

The three leaders held their first post-referendum meeting in June after which they called for “a new impulse” for the EU. Last month, Renzi said the UK’s decision showed that urgent change was needed.

Quoting Andy100:
The real ecomomic horror is the Euro area. UK is fine as all the stats show

Will Andy100 do us all favor and tell which stats he is looking at? The value of the pound decreases; imports to Britain become more expensive; tourists have less to spend; expat pensions reduce in value; the FTSE is rising, but taking into account the falling value of the pound, it is really falling; finance companies are leaving Britain. That is what the stats really say. Is Andy100 on a parallel planet?

Farage should be given a knighthood if at least for drawing the attention of the British public to the bunch of anti British fascists and incompetents who have driven the EU into economic disaster with their lunatic austerity policies. If not a knighthood then perhaps a sainthood for the salvation of the UK.

If Cameron was at fault for anything other than following through on a pledge, Blair & Brown et al should be in The Hague for war crimes and political untruths. The sooner Brexit is effected the better and May should do all in her power to do so.

Charly calls them political criminals, and it is certain that Johnson and Farage and their henchmen told many unpunishable lies during the Brexit campaign. Which is the reason why referenda are the tools of demagogues as well as dictators. The greatest charge we can level at Cameron is one of gross political incompetence.

Can "political criminals" as Johnson, Ferrage and Cameron be brought before a tribunal to be punished for the economical horror they created in their country ?
