Despite several requests for Financial Support and Partnership, a serious funding shortage is threatening the Say No to Oil and Gas Exploration Campaign in the Algarve.
The Planners of the "Save the Algarve from Oil and Gas Exploration" are making a final and urgent plea to all the people that have signed this petition to financially assist in bringing forth the planned campaign this summer.
From August to today’s date we have received 830,10 Euros in financial contributions (€510,10 Aug-Dec and the balance in January), which we are truly grateful for, but you will agree with us that this amount is far short of the costs already incurred, and falls far short of the costs that we will have to incur if we are to bring the campaign to a successful completion which is to raise awareness and get 100,000 signatures on our petition.
Should we fail to raise the necessary funding and support, especially from these that will be most affected in the future should the oil and gas exploration go ahead – we will acknowledge that this campaign is not important to them or to you, and that we ourselves are just wasting our time, money and energy.
As much as we don’t want to see our coastal zones destroyed and more people unemployed and our environment under serious threat, one thing we will know for sure - is that we have done all that we could to prevent it, but we just didn’t have the resources to continue because only a few people cared enough to assist and partner with us.
Now it is up to you. You have to ask yourself what is really important.
1. Spending 20 Euros on a meal or supporting this cause?
2. Buying the latest fashion T-shirt for 50 Euros or supporting this cause?
3. Attending a soccer match in another town for 100 Euros or supporting this cause?
THE CHOICE IS YOURS!
What we do know is that if we do not raise at least 3000 Euros in the next week to assist in carrying the printing costs for the summer campaign we will not be able to execute it properly, and we will be not be able to continue.
So as our deadlines approach, the organizers are making an urgent appeal for those who share our vision to join hands financially with us and to donate to this cause.
We are 8 days away from the kick-start of the campaign which is planned to run until August.
There is no doubt that the Algarve is facing a strategic moment in history, whether we will all gather in unity or not; whether we will support each other or not that is a choice that we will all have to make. How you respond to this call for help will determine what will happen to our oceans and to our environment, not to mention the economic survival of the Algarve.
The choice is yours.
