The Vicar of Dibley - get involved!

The AlgarveansThe Algarveans Experimental Theatre group have hit the new year running with plans already underway for their next show. In May they will be performing The Vicar of Dibley, a stage play by Ian Gower and Paul Carpenter adapted from the original television series by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer.

As many of you will know this was an hilarious BBC Television sitcom that ran for four years in the 1990s. In recent years, it has been developed as a stage play to raise funds for the charity Comic Relief.

The same delightful main characters all appear; we see Geraldine Grainger arrive in Dibley as the non-traditional, chocolate-lover and fun-loving vicar of St Barnabus Church. The appointment of a female vicar causes uproar but doesn't stop Geraldine from proving her worthiness to the village.

The Algarveans will be reading through the play at Lagoa Bombeiros (the usual rehearsal location) on Tuesday January 23 at 7.30pm, aided by cheese and wine!

Auditions will be held at the same place and time on Thursday February 1. If you would like to be involved as cast or in one of the many behind-the-scene roles you are very welcome to join us on the 23rd to find out more. Please let the director Mel Winstanley know you are coming or for further information telephone 912 010 865 or email mel@moveison.com.
