Saxophone & Piano Concert - Sunday 6 May

Saxophone Concert - Sunday 6 MayOn Sunday 6 May at 17h00 -  Saxophonist Vitaly Vartulya and pianist Maria Nemtsova will be performing  at Quintinha da Música.  Tickets are €25. 

Vitaly Vatulya Vitaly Vatulya is Russia´s most outstanding young saxophonist. Born in Moscow in 1987, Vitaly started his music education at the age of 7, and at the age of 13 he won a national contest called ‘Young Virtuoso’ in Simferopol, Ukraine. Vitaly was trained at the European University of Saxophone in Gap before winning the Grand Prix at the International Competition in Kiev. He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of Music and took a postgraduate diploma from the prestigious Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. Since 2015 he has been based in Amsterdam and graduated from Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2017. Vitaly gives concerts in Russia and abroad as soloist and an ensemble player, and he is also a member of the Ebonit Saxophone Quartet and performs with the leading Russian and European orchestras. Since 2007 the saxophonist has released three CDs, on which he performs works by Hindemith, Debussy, Franck, Mendelssohn and Borne among others. Vitaly continues to win prizes as a soloist and in 2015 he formed the prizewinning VitaDuo duet with pianist Maria Nemtsova. 

Maria NemtsovaMaria Nemtsova was born in Moscow and began playing the violin at the age of five, and shortly afterwards took up the piano. By the age of six Maria won her first piano competition and she was accepted into the competitive Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory where she graduated in 2007 with honours.  In 2007, Maria was the only pianist accepted as William Smith scholar to the Royal College of Music in London, graduating with distinction in 2009. During her studies Maria gave a number of solo and chamber recitals both throughout the UK and in Germany, Italy, Tunisia, Mongolia and USA. In 2008 Maria was accepted at the prestigious Accademia Pianistica (Imola, Italy) and in 2012 Maria successfully completed her Artist Diploma in Italy and MMus programme at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, and in January 2012 Maria won the Gold Medal, the most prestigious prize at Trinity Laban conservatoire. Maria has been a prizewinner of numerous international piano competitions in Russia, Italy, Austria and USA.  Maria has performed at major venues around the world as soloist and also as accompanist

Both Vitaly and Maria are founders and initiators of the Festival of topical music ‘Re:Formers’ (www.reformersfest.com)  and of ‘Music for Peace’ international charitable project (www.music-peace.com) which includes concerts and master-classes for young musicians who live in todays conflict zones.

Vitaly and Maria will be playing music by Claude Debussy, Jean Denis Michat and  Nicolay Medtner.
