Charm Picnics To Celebrate Spring

Charm Picnics To Celebrate SpringAfter the first Picnic that inaugurated the Forgotten Food Festival last October 19th in Silves, these moments for sharing and celebrating Algarvian traditions are back to brighten Spring and deliver unforgettable food experiences.

What are the Charm Picnics? A return to the past in the present - recreating the picnics of old days and their socializing role in rural communities of the Algarve.

The event begins with a short interpretive walk close to the picnic spot, led by a member of the local community who tells about the area, its stories and tradition. At the picnic spot – a scenic or magical place – guests take their seats on blankets or at picnic tables, depending on the event’s location.

A Chef explains the meal’s menu as well as the local and traditional (often forgotten) ingredients used. All the explanations are translated into English by a host present in each event, to clear any doubts foreign participants may have.

The Algarve’s symbolic instrument – the accordion – is also a protagonist of these feasts entertaining guests and inviting to dance outdoors.

Each event is unrepeatable, unique, shared and representative of more or less forgotten food, memories and places of the Algarve. The Festival closes with a big algarvian party at Querença (Loulé), on the 16th of May: at Casa da Dona Glória.
