The biggest nature event in Portugal is back! There's a range of offers this year: field trips, boat tours, workshops, talks, environmental education activities, bird ringing sessions and much, much more. There will also be hikes, photography courses, history-themed guided tours or dolphin-watching.
From the 1st to the 5th of October 2021, Sagres will once again be the stage for the biggest nature and bird event in Portugal. In October, thousands of birds fly over the Algarve, on their way to their wintering territories in Africa, providing a spectacle worthy of a festival. As hundreds of seabirds, such as rump or shearwater, pass off the coast, griffins, short-toed eagles and black storks hover in the air in search of their way to Africa. On land, bushes and trees are stopping places for small birds looking to make the ambitious journey south.
To celebrate these winged visitors and make the most of this incredible spectacle, the 12th edition of the Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival proposes five days full of activities for all tastes. From bird watching sessions on land and at sea, to the very popular ringing sessions, this festival offers a variety of opportunities for nature lovers to discover that the Algarve is much more than a beach. There is also plenty of choice for the families and friends of bird watchers, such as walks, hikes, lectures, and challenges for the younger ones.
The program will be available on August 10th, when online registration will also open at www.birdwatchingsagres.com (updating). Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/birdwatchingfestivalofsagres and on Instagram at www.instagram.com/sagresbirdwatchingfestival.
The event is organized once again by the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the Almargem Association.
