For our next two AMIGOS’ CONCERTS on March 21st and 23rd, 2023 we are fortunate to welcome back the fabulous Australian pianist,Piers Lane.
Piers writes: “The programmes I'm thinking of for March are both rather Romantic: to recognise the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninov (born near Novgorod on April 1st 1873, died in Beverly Hills on March 28, 1943).
On March 21st he will play several Preludes and the Variations by Sergey Rachmaninov followed by 12 pieces by Frederic Chopin.
On March 23rd he will play GRIEG’s Holberg Suite and Variations by Piotr Tchaikovsky, John Field and Alexander Glazunov.
All concerts will take place in the Auditorium of OS AGOSTOS near Santa Bárbara de Nexe. Doors will open at 6.00pm and the concert will begin at 7.00pm.!
There will be wine, fruit juices and canapés available for self-service.

London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane has a worldwide reputation as an engaging, searching and highly versatile performer, at home equally in solo, chamber and concerto repertoire. Five times soloist at the BBC Proms, Piers Lane’s wide-ranging concerto repertoire exceeds one hundred works and has led to engagements with many of the world’s great orchestras, working recently with conductors like Sir Andrew Davis, Vassily Sinaisky, Gerard Schwartz and Brett Dean.
In 2015 Piers Lane was appointed Artistic Director of the Sydney International Piano Competition and is responsible for initiatives like the 2021 Online Piano Competition, the Piano Lovers’ Competition for amateur Australian pianists and Composing the Future, a competition to help Australian composers during covid times.
In recent seasons Piers Lane performed three concerti at Carnegie Hall, and world premieres of Carl Vine’s second Piano Concerto and Double Piano Concerto (with Kathryn Stott) Implacable Gifts, both written for him. He has written and presented over 100 programmes for BBC Radio 3, including the 54-part series The Piano.
The AMIGOS DE MÚSICA is an international group of around 120 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians.
It is a non-profit organization and celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in 2021.
