The annual Publituris Portugal Travel Awards has listed 20 of the Algarve’s most noted businesses for its 2017 line-up.
The Algarve is named in the "Best National Tourism Region" category in the awards, known in the trade and media as the ‘national tourism Oscars.’
After winning the 2016 edition, the Algarve’s tourist board is hoping the region is at least in the running with close to 6 million overnight stays registered between January and May this year.
In the ‘Best Hotel Resort’ six of the seven are in the Algarve: Cascade Wellness & Lifestyle Resort, Epic SANA Algarve, Monte Santo Resort, The Lake Resort, Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa and Vilalara Thalassa Resort.
In the ‘Best Beach Hotel’ category the region is represented by the Bela Vista Hotel & Spa, Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel, Suites Alba Resort & Spa, Vila Galé Lagos and the ever-so-posh Vila Joya.
Up for the ‘Best Five Star Hotel’ award is, naturellement, the Conrad Algarve; the ‘Best Three Star Hotel’ lists the Dom José Beach Hotel; and the ‘Best Hotel MICE’ is the the Salgados Palace.
Five golf courses in the region are competing in the ‘Best Golf Course’ category: Monte Rei, The Old Course, Onyria Palmares, Quinta do Lago Norte and Vale do Lobo Royal.
"Every year that passes, the Algarve has more names in the Publituris Travel Awards, the Oscars of the sector at the national level. If we count the categories in which the region competes, 20 of the 49 nominations are in the Algarve," said the Algarve Tourism Region’s president.
The Publituris Portugal Travel Awards are intended to reward the best companies, institutions, services and professionals who have excelled in the Tourism sector during the last half of 2016 and the first half of 2017.
The nominees are submitted via online voting, which runs until September 11th, 2017, with the winners announced on the 21st.
