A Romanian, out fishing with friends, has drowned in the waters of the Funcho dam in São Bartolomeu de Messines, Silves.
The Sunday fishing trip ended in tragedy after the man decided to go for a swim and simply disappeared from sight.
According to the GNR the 35-years-old Romanian national was fishing with three friends when, in the early afternoon, he decided to have a swim, "The man was found a few hours later by firefighters, already dead, and we presume that his death occurred by drowning."
Rescue operations involved firefighters from Portimão, Lagoa, Albufeira and São Bartolomeu de Messines, the National Emergency Medical Institute and the GNR.
