An abandoned newborn baby was found with signs of life in a ditch in Boavista dos Pinheiros in Odemira but later died.
The authorities were called at 11:50 this on Monday morning after a mamber of the public spotted the newborn near the Boavista dos Pinheiros residential area.
Emergency teams soon were on the scene and performed some life support actions as the baby was in cardiac arrest. This was to no avail and the baby died at the scene.
The tiny body was taken to the Medical-Legal Office of Baixo Alentejo in Beja hospital for an autopsy.
The GNR alerted the Judicial Police Department of Criminal Investigation in Setúbal and investigators are on the case.
