Couple found dead with gunshot wounds in Lagoa house

INEM125Two people were found dead early on Saturday, inside their home in Rua da Infantário, Lagoa, Algarve.

According to the GNR, the Portuguese victims, a man and a woman both in their 50s, had been fatally injured by a firearm and that the circumstances in which the incident occurred were unknown.

The same source said that "a firearm was found" at the site. Media at the scene suggested that murder followed by suicide is being investigated by the Judicial Police.

A source from Faro's District Relief Operations Centre told Lusa that a 112 call had been received at around 12:03, after neighbours saw that blood had seeped under the front door. Firefighters broken open the door and found two bodies, “with injuries caused by a firearm." Police immediately were called to the scene.

According to CM TV, despite the call being received at around noon on Saturday, "the deaths would have occurred hours before, possibly the night before" and were caused by a firearm, the sound of which one neighbour had thought was fireworks.

It is known that the man was a Council worker in the waste collection department.
