messinesAerialCourt beckons for a 73-year-old Belgian man and a 58-year-old woman, both charged in connection with a murder committed in Messines in 2016.

According to the indictment issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office, the woman, a friend of the Belgian man, often stayed over at his home in Silves.

"On the night of December 18 to 19, 2016, following a plan they both has hatched, the accused hid near the victim's home, a woman with whom the defendant had a long-running conflict, shooting her nine times, causing her death," reads the indictment.

"The pair then simulated an assault on the victim's house, burned the man's clothes and threw the weapon into the sea from a Sagres cliff."

In June 2018, the Belgian national was arrested and charged with shooting dead his octogenarian neighbour, trying to make it look like someone else had assaulted her.

At the time, the prosecutor stated, "the defendant has admitted to killing an 81-year-old neighbour with a firearm. The facts go back to December 2016 and occurred in the area of São Bartolomeu de Messines, where the defendant and the victim resided."
