Officers from Portugal’s Aliens and Borders Service (SEF) announced today that eight people have been identified as illegal workers in various establishments in Albufeira.
A surveillance operation was mounted to spy on staff at two restaurants and one laundry, all in Albufeira.
The workers were given 20 days 'voluntarily to leave the country.'
According to the SEF, proceedings have been started against the employers who face fines of between €6,000 and €25,000.
SEF's inspections also have been carried out at motor homes in the Algarve region, with the stated aim of ‘controlling the stay of foreigners in the country.’
This exercise identified 38 foreigners on the beaches of Furnas and Barranco, in the Vila do Bispo council area, but, "no infractions were detected regarding irregular stays in Portugal."
