Portimão council - animal grazing regulations to keep roads safe

horseA new regulation published by Portimão council states that anyone leaving animals grazing on unfenced open ground can be fined between €100 and €2,500.
 
The same penalty applies to those who leave animals to graze in a public space or on private property, without the written permission of the owner or who leave cattle grazing within 50 metres of a public road.

Albufeira Doctor gets five years for 1999-2001 fraud

pillsDr Albano Mendonça, from Albufeira, was convicted yesterday at the Court of Portimão and sentenced to five years in prison for forgery and fiddling the State in a drugs scam.
 
A pharmacist from Silves also was sentenced - two years in prison for complicity in the doctor’s scheme. Another chemist was acquitted for lack of evidence.

Shellfish theft - Spanish fishermen caught by Tavira Maritime Police

Around 160 kilos of shellfish were found onboard and were seized yesterday, February 15, in the sea off Tavira Island beach.

GNR officers nab 2,799 speeding drivers in one week

gnrIn just one week, the GNR caught 2,799 drivers who were breaking the speed limit on Portugal’s roads.
 
In a campaign between February 9th and 15th, the GNR carried out a series of operations throughout the country, aimed at preventing and combating terrorism, violent crime and road surveillance, and recorded 9,334 infractions - 2,799 of them were for speeding.

Minister claims delayed railway projects will start soon

Ryanair cabin crews to strike over "bullying and excessive pressure"

ryanair13Ryanair's cabin crew based in Portugal decided on Thursday to call a three-day strike in the last two weeks of March and again in the first half of April, due to "business practices that seriously undermine workers' rights.”
 
In a general meeting held in Lisbon this Thursday, Ryanair employees agreed formally to advise the National Civil Aviation Flight Crew (SNPVAC) syndicate to register the strike days “if there is no immediate and substantial change in business practices that seriously undermine the rights of cabin crew."
