Celebrate World Tourism Day with 'Guided tours of Silves' - Sept 27th

CELEBRATE WORLD TOURISM DAY WITH 'GUIDED TOURS OF SILVES' - SEPT 27THThe Municipality of Silves marks World Tourism Day, associating itself with the World Tourism Organization (WTO), which dedicates September 27, 2023 to the theme - “Tourism and Green Investments” - one of the main priorities for the recovery of tourism , growth and future development.

The program of activities will begin with a walking tour through the city of Silves, at 10:00 am and 2:30 pm. There is a lot to discover in the city of Silves and, for around 3 hours, the itinerary passes through well-known points in the city such as the Municipal Market, Praça do Município, Pelourinho, the Municipal Archeology Museum, Silves Castle, and at the end There is a mandatory stop at Doçaria do Sul to sample a traditional sweet.

The meeting point for the tour will be at the riverside, close to the RTA Tourist Office, where the Exhibition “The environment needs you, help us preserve it!” will be on display from September 27th. This exhibition aims to raise awareness among those who visit us to adopt very simple actions, with a view to protecting our natural resources, making their contribution to a more sustainable environment.

Participation in the Walking Tour through the city of Silves is free with limited capacity, but subject to prior registration by sending an email to turismo@cm-silves.pt from the 22nd to the 26th of September, indicating the name(s) of the ) participant(s), age, nationality, address, preferred time of the tour (10am or 2:30pm), as well as telephone contact. Registration will only be validated after confirmation by email from the tourism sector (priority will be given to visitors and non-residents of the municipality).

The program may be subject to changes, and some points on the itinerary may be canceled due to weather conditions. Participants must be present 10 minutes before the tour starting time, at the meeting point. It is also advisable to bring shoes, comfortable clothes and a bottle of water. We remind you that World Tourism Day has been celebrated annually since 1980, with the aim of raising awareness among the international population about the role and importance of this sector, taking into account the social, political, economic and cultural impact of this activity.
