New Year's Eve celebrations across the Algarve

fireworksFrom east to west, the Algarve is back in business this New Year’s Eve with fireworks and music to welcome in 2017 with the fervent hope that it will be markedly better than the current one.

In Lagos, the venue is the Praça do Infante where Portugal’s Xutos & Pontapés will be banging out the hits from 22:30, followed by fireworks and straight into DJ Monchike’ dance music for those with any energy left.

In Portimão, the riverfront by the old metal bridge is the place to hang out (next to the old Lota building), where, Pau D'Arara will be on stage from 23:00, breaking for the midnight firework display and carrying on until at least 02:00.

In Lagoa, on the opposite bank of the Arade to the Portimão fireworks, the end of the year will be celebrated at the Arade Congress Centre in Parchal. The party starts with a welcome reception and a Sparkling Cocktail with ambient music from the Allegro Duet. There will be a dinner and musical entertainment by the Daddy Jack Band’s brand of funk, soul and disco.

The firework display over the Arade is set for midnight, after which the music will be from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
 
Armação de Pêra’s fishermen’s beach is the where Silves council’s party will take place this year with the band, Quinta do Bill, starting at 11:15, preceded by Duo Sax at 10:30. After fireworks over the beach, the Carlos Moisés band will keep the crowd going until 01:00 followed by DJ Paulo Abreu.

Albufeira is the big one, as to be expected from the region’s main tourism area. The main party is at the Praia dos Pescadores, with performances by Aurea at 22:30, and from D.A.M.A. after the midnight fireworks.

The Salgados Conference Centre has an end-of-year programme, the Solrir Festival, which takes place on the 29th and 30th of December and the 1st and 2nd of January 2017.

The programme features performances by Herman José, Nilton, Aldo Lima, Serafim, Zé Pedro and Môce dum Cabrêste.

Loulé area’s year-end festivities are at the Praça do Mar de Quarteira. The band UHF will play until midnight fireworks and then Quem é o Bob will party on until early on the 1st.

Faro’s Jardim Manuel Bívar will host the last party of the year. From 23:00 pm onwards, Virgem Suta  will play, with DJ Christian F. Kicking off after 01:00.

The Olhão party this year in the main Jardim Pescador overlooking the Ria Formosa with Gerações starting at 22:00, Iris at 23:30 leading up the fireworks and playing after until 01:00. Then it’s back to Gerações  to carry on for as long as the crowd is able to stand.

In Tavira, the band, Função Pública, starts at 22:00 with DJ Fábio Palma and Draft on after the firework celebration.

IN VRSA, Monte Gordo’s Avenida Marginal will see Duo Reflexo playing up to midnight, followed by Os Anjos and then dance music by DJ Fábio Palma and Draft.

Alcoutim refuses to be outdone by its larger Algarve neighbours and will kick off its party at 22:00 on the quayside with music from Energie until the midnight fireworks.
