A body was discovered today, 1st May, in the Ria Formosa lagoon, close to Faro Island, a peninsula along the coast of Faro, after shellfish gatherers raised the alarm, according to Portuguese tabloid Correio da Manhã (CM).
According to the newspaper’s online edition, the Maritime Police were alerted following a report made by shellfish gatherers who were working in the area during Friday morning, near the road providing access to Praia de Faro.
Around twenty personnel were deployed to the scene, supported by eight vehicles.
The investigation has been handed over to the Judicial Police, whose officers have already attended the site to carry out the necessary forensic examinations, CM reports. The body will be transferred to the Faro Forensic Medical Office.
