Avoid water filter company Acquasul, warns DECO

waterConsumer rights organisation Deco has received dozens of complaints about a water filter company called Acquasul and has decided to let everyone know that this company should be avoided.

Customers have been charged hundreds of euros despite having cancelled water filter equipment supply contracts within the legal time limit.

Acquasul has been referred by Deco to Portugal’s feared Food Safety and Economic Authority (ASAE) but while waiting for ASAE to investigate, has issued a red alert.

The company signs up customers in their homes by conducting a tap water quality test, which invariably shows poor quality water, and then flogs them a water filtration system that can cost over €2,000.

Last year, Deco received 261 complaints, an increase on the 225 figure for 2014 both of which are appalling for any service company.

One of the common complaints received by Deco is that Acquasul has a nasty habit of charging 15% of the contract price if the consumer decides to cancel it within 14 days.

"Considering the gravity of the situation, Deco alerts all potential consumers with regard to this company and its business practices which are detrimental to the rights of consumers. You cannot be charged an installation cost that has not been previously advised and accepted by consumers," reads the Deco advice issued today.

The association advises consumers to steer clear of Acquasul for as long as it continues to rip-off customers. The company website http://www.acquasul.pt/ is not functioning but the Facebook pages remain active.
