GNR raid and close old people's home after 'ill-treatment' complaint

gnrlogoAn illegally operated old people’s home in Cruz da Assumada, Loulé has been raided and closed down by the GNR.

Eleven men and two women aged between 69 and 78 were said by the GNR to be living in appalling and dangerous conditions.

The occupants also had to share their accommodation with 24 dogs, owned by the manager, a woman aged 43.

After the "immediate closure" of the home, nine of its inhabitants were accommodated in alternative, properly licensed facilities and four went back to their families.

The raid by GNR officers was as a result of a complaint that residents were being ill-treated.

Staff from Social Security in Faro accompanied the GNR, as did staff from the centre for the Investigation and Support of Victims, members of the GNR’s Special Programs Center in Loulé, and an Environmental Protection Team from the GNR.
