Folar, fado and Easter entertainment

folarAlgarvians, as the rest of Portugal today are baking folar in their brick and stone ovens as part of their traditional Easter meal.

Folar is a dome-shaped sweet bread baked with whole eggs immersed into the dough. As is traditional, the family would have spent the previous day kneading the dough between consuming copious amounts of wine. Yes, they make it an occasion for the family entertainment and another excuse for coming together, again.

For those that won't be retrieving any folar from deep in their ovens there's the beautiful Fado music show every Friday at the Cafe Vadio in Lagos which starts at 21:30pm.

On the 25th of March the cultural centre is presenting a play 'Novas diretrizes em tempos de paz' (New guidelines in times of peace) if one fancies sit down entertainment. This promises to be entertaining from the reviews ofthose that have seen it.

On the following day the same cultural centre is presenting the very popular 'Masterclass de Acordeão com Frederic Deschamps'.

This is a display of masterful accordion play which attracts many people across Europe.

For those that would love to be out and about there is a student art exhibition in front of the central church in Lagos over the weekend showcasing art work from Julius Dantas' students from the 25th to the 27th of March.

However way, therefore, you wish to spend your Easter weekend there's bucket loads of entertainment from live bands in lively pubs to more serene theatre environments all throughout Algarve.
