Environment Minister João Pedro Matos Fernandes revealed earlier today that none of the six drivers who were supposed to have transported fuel to Faro airport for airplane use did so this morning, an "unambiguous" breach of the civil requisition.
Portuguese Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased 1.8% in the second quarter of this year, having progressed 0.5% in year-on-year terms, keeping pace with the previous quarter, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) revealed on Wednesday. This means that Portugal is growing at a faster rate than the European Union average of 1.3% and even more relative to Eurozone countries (only 1.1%).

Faro beach has been reopened today after a new analysis "has ensured that the waters are of the desired quality for swimming", announced Faro Council this morning.
The municipality revealed that “the red flag was removed and the green flag was raised”, which, in a note published on the council’s Facebook page, “attests to the excellent quality of Faro Beach, as a summer area that rigorously meets the most demanding requirements and environmental criteria.” Seemingly conveying that they are fully confident that the destination is safe for the thousands of families who choose it as a place to spend their holidays.
Canadian company Tilray has revealed that it has leased 20 hectares of land near Évora to an agricultural company by the name of Esporão, in order to produce medicinal cannabis, which was planted last month, in July. The agreement for these 20 hectares of outdoor land in the Alentejo, signed between Tilray Portugal, a subsidiary of the Canadian company, and Esporão, was revealed last week.

There were only about 65 people from all over Europe, "the seats were empty, signaling the lack of popularity of the far-right in Portugal," stated a Reuters report.

Some pumps at fuel stations belonging to the Government’s Strategic Supply Network (REPA) are already empty. The fuel strike kicked off today, Monday the 12th of August, and the effects are clearly visible in the Algarve.
