Fires reveal ancient footpath between Monchique and Picota

monchiqueNature tourism company, ProActiveTur and Monchique Council are keen to promote the old path between Caldas de Monchique and Picota as a bracing, fun and interesting walk.

Hidden for years by an industrial density of eucalyptus and the unchecked growth of scrub, the old path was rediscovered after fire swept through the area this August, leaving 27,000 hectares of burnt trees, rural properties and equipment.

Driver dies in EN125 crash

INEM125A van burst into flames after it was involved in a crash with a lorry near Portimão Hospital on the notorious EN125.

The driver of the van possibly died on impact but was inside the vehicle as it burned. The lorry driver escaped serious harm and later was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

PM to improve his 'welcome back to Portugal' tax proposal

europeAntónio Costa’s proposal to attract Portuguese emigrants back to the homeland, was launched at Socialist party congress: namely that residents of Portugal (whether or not nationals) who emigrated after 2014, and return before 2020, will be entitled to a 50% reduction of their income tax bill and will get their fare and moving costs paid.

Four Spaniards rescued from cove near Albandeira

AlbandeiraBeachRescueFour stranded Spaniards, cut off by the rising tide, had to be rescued by emergency services on Monday before they were swamped and washed away.

The rescue took place in a cove to the west of Albandeira beach, Lagoa. The Maritime Police from Portimão called out the Ferragudo lifeboat and a jet-ski to rescue three adults and a baby who had become trapped on the beach.

Algarve's business fairs continue to thrive
