Floating hashish bale spotted off Albufeira

beachpenecoalbufeira Dog walkers along the central Algarve’s beaches will be out earlier than usual, for a week at least, after Police spotted and hauled aboard a 30kg floating bale of hashish.

The well bagged and buoyant narcotic was spotted 7 kilometres off Albufeira.

Portimão Maritime Police then searched the sea and shore as these finds seldom are limited to one bale only.

Finding nothing, the Police returned to base but will be aware of the probability that concerned citizens, finding additional bundles washed up in the region’s beaches, may falter when it comes to reporting their finds.

The bale of drugs was handed over to the Judicial Police for full investigation and possible sampling. A report will be sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office despite there being nobody to prosecute.

Ed, have you any idea what actually happens to this stuff once the police have finished sampling it? Do you think there will be any left after the sampling has taken place?

Concerned citizens finding a washed ashore bale. What a hoot. Cut a slice off it, take it home and gently warm it in a pan with some olive oil. Your concerns at the bale will vanish although when sober everyday concerns will remain. So go back to the beach for more - stop the Police having all the fun!
