Silves Council - lynx centre to be built near the castle.

lynx2A public tender has been launched to design and execute the interpretive centre at Casa do Quinta do Camacho on the northern slope of the castle mound.

The Interpretive Centre of the Iberian Lynx continues the Council’s desire to explain all about this threatened species as there already is an exhibition in the castle grounds at the Aljibe, opened in 2014.

Quinta do Camacho will host the exhibition space and shop as well as a store, with lynx related products.

The plan alloews visitors to access the centre directly at Casa do Quinta do Camacho or through the castle grounds.

The lynx breeding centre, more formally, the National Reproduction Center of the Iberian Lynx, located at Herdade das Santinhas to the east of the city nearer ti Messines, will act as the start of a new ‘lynx route’ – all part of the ‘Plan of Action for the Conservation of the Iberian Lynx in Portugal.’

Quoting Gordon Brown:
100% funded by Portugal. A first ! Only joking .... without Brussels Cohesion Funds this Lynx Rescue Centre would not be happening. Like so much else that is educational in Portugal, it is just not important enough unless someone else is paying for it. Maybe some of the UK's expected 39 billion to buy our freedom will find its way to Silves?

.......................
FYI, the eu do not provide 100% funding !!
If one is lucky enough to receive funding, it is about 10% or 20% of the cost of the project.
