A 57-year-old woman who suffered a spider fish bite on the beach of Alvor Poente, in Portimão on Saturday, was assisted by the National Maritime Authority.
When you are bitten by the spider fish you may initially think that you have stepped on a rock or a pointed shell. There is initially a mild pain, but it evolves almost immediately to an intense pain, difficult to bear, with changes in the surrounding skin, which becomes red and swollen.
According to the official, the "alert was received through 112, and the elements of the“ SeaWatch ”project moved immediately to the location, where they assisted the victim". She was able to leave the beach unaided, in just a little mild pain.

Yes I got stung as a child, caught one while fishing but regret eating it out of revenge as it didn't taste great.
Slow news day ADN? You could report on effective treatments for Covid or how dangerous this vaccine is proving to be for a lot of people but Spider fish is on the menu today
This is the Weever Fish which is very common on sandy beaches in the Algarve.
It looks nothing like a spider except that it has spines along its back which contain poison. It hurts but the pain soon recedes if you put your hand under hot running water. No permanent damage but painful until you neutralise the poison with heat.
I have been stung by one and have caught one , trimmed the spines, and eaten it.
