The missing British tourist has been found alive and well by the police in Portimão.

Keith Edward Newing, a 69-year old visitor from Manchester went missing last Thursday night from the Pestana Delfim hotel in Alvor.

Mr Newing was found by police officers who had been looking for him since his disappearance was reported.

The family of the grandfather who went missing just hours after arriving in Portugal had issued an appeal through the British Consulate and local media for anyone seeing a man of his description to get in touch with them or the police.

Keith Edward Newing suffers from dementia and simply appeared to have wandered off from Alvor's prestigous hotel without vital heart medication, money or other personal belongings.

A source from the GNR said that he was found in Portimão in a confused state but physically well .

Franks left out the 'elephant in the room'.

Certainly the Portuguese Police are not, as a body, up to the job of policing an EU state. Many of the older ones would rather wear the other genders clothes than ask a civilian for 'help'.

Perhaps some Portuguese Police do cross dress .... but there is also the bizarre fixation that the Portuguese are taught in their schools that Britain has 'done us wrong'. Then, in a manic twist, Portugal is 'just like Britain' - whatever 'difficulties' we have, we can often read the British have just the same.

With the additional stress to all Portuguese of - do not admit to the British this schizoid behaviour. As we want their money - but not them.

Being a people who are totally different in so many ways and many now realising it - skews everything.

Are the Portuguese Police particularly 'disconnected' if it is a Briton who is in distress ?

News item in conjunction with the British Consulate.

We wish the search is speedily and successfully concluded.

But, as a thousand time before .... where are the 'official' announcements by the Police ? Describing this elderly British gentleman and asking for the publics involvement finding him?

With the recently missing Scots chef - yet more examples of Portuguese Police backwardness - that could cost lives !

In the Caso Rui Pedro case, much earlier in 1998 there were a number of phone calls to the family - possible sightings or wind ups. So the judge agreed with the family to 'wire tap' their phone. Then the family learn that nobody was bothering to locate these phone calls !!

And notice how this case only went nationwide following the McCann publicty !
