Lonely Planet puts Portugal in top ten for quality and price

alqueivaPortugal is once again among the top worldwide destinations recommended by Lonely planet for having an impressive quality:price ratio.

The latest edition of the iconic travel guide puts Portugal among the top 10 sites to visit in 2015 without trashing the budget.

The travel guide publisher highlights not only the Algarve, which "is no longer a surprise to regular visitors" but also Lisbon showing that Portugal has more to offer than "just a sunny seaside" holiday.

According to Lonely Planet, which placed Portugal an enviable 7th in the top 10, much of Lisbon’s price appeal is due to Ryanair using the capital as a hub, "Lisbon, as lively as Barcelona but with fewer crowds and cheaper, becomes much more accessible with the opening of the Ryanair base."

Lonely Planet attracts an affluent, educated and travel-mad audience and suggests that they visit other areas of Portugal outside the capital which are not part of the main tourist routes as here will be found cheaper prices.

All you meed to mention is the 30000 Portuguese who found employment in the UK last year when their own country/government failed to respond-When you are confronted by "estrangeiros" you know what to say.-
At least the "Bief´s mal passado" offer employment.

These travel guides should carry a 'Wealth warning' similar to tobacco health warnings.

Stressing that they are only ever to be used by people PASSING THROUGH a country.

If intending to STAY then other sources MUST be used as these travel guides will mislead you.

None of the Rough Guide, Dorling Kindersley etc Portugal guide books give any warning about the depth of hostility by Portuguese brought up within their education system against the British.

It becomes quite obvious though in the Portuguese school history books with deep discussions about African colonies being stolen from us (the Portuguese). The entire 1800's described as the Age of English Hedgemony (ie theft and land grabbing by the Brits) 1890 Ultimatum etc etc

This recent Bife Mal Passado best seller that will never be translated into english is just a more obvious example.

So why does the British Foreign Office not tell us ?

Do they imagine that Portugal will ever develop the moral fibre to 'go public' and start warning the British to stay away because (we Portuguese) cannot be trusted around you!
Dream on UK FO .... at our cost !!!
