Sepp Blatter resigns from FIFA

seppblatterSepp Blatter resigned as FIFA president on Tuesday, four days after being re-elected to a fifth term.

Blatter, 79, announced the decision at a news conference in Zurich, six days after the FBI raided a hotel in Zurich and arrested several FIFA officials.

He said an extraordinary congress is to be called to elect his successor as soon as possible.

Blatter said: "I am very much linked to FIFA and its interests and the interests are dear to me. This is why I have taken this decision.

"I would like to thank everyone who has always supported me in a constructive and loyal manner as president of FIFA."

Blatter could withstand national or internal FIFA pressure. But he could not cope with no money. He has resigned because the corporate sponsors threatened to stop supplying the money. And of course, because he himself is now being investigated.

What is so interesting is when posing the question - what other countries (the US and UK and their associates) could have brought this about ?

Of the 200 FIFA members ... about maybe 10.

Portugal kicking off about corruption will never / would never have happened. A kettle calling the pot black !
