Faro Airport already has catered for a 3% upturn in passengers this year, is set to handle a predicted winter increase of 11% in the last quarter of the year.
French owned airports operator ANA claims "renewed commitment" from airlines to mitigate seasonality in the Algarve.
ANA management says it has reduced landing fees at Faro Airport for the winter months and is offering other incentives for airlines to fly to Faro.
Today’s statements read, "the answer to this strategy begins to bear fruit, registering a growing membership of airlines stepping up their winter operations."
"This renewed commitment by some companies to break seasonality is the start of a new virtuous cycle that leads to an increase of the winter offer in the region, which in turn is the engine for a growing momentum of strengthening operations and routes."
These new routes for a winter in the sun represent an increased supply of seats available, some 148,254 which is an 11.2% rise over last winter."
The new routes include Cardiff twice a week with Flybe, Memmingen with Ryanair twice a week and to and from Zurich twice a week with Air Berlin.
There are new routes to and from Faro offered by Germanwings to Dusseldorf once a week, Monarch to London Luton twice a week, Aigle Azur to Paris Orly twice a week, and SAS to Stockholm once a week.
"Faro Airport thus will offer 35 direct destinations served by 15 scheduled airlines this winter," added ANA, which generously pointed out the involvement of "national and regional tourism partners and airlines and tour operators in order to strengthen flights to Faro Airport in the winter period."
