Brits told to Keep Calm and Carry On

fcoThe message of the 1939 motivational poster again has relevance for British expats in the wake of Brexit.

The UK Foreign Office has launched a new webpage specifically for expats living in or visiting EU countries after a majority of British people opted to part company with the European Union.

Negotiations “may take up to 2 years or more” and “in the interim there will be no immediate changes.”

"During the period of the negotiations, the UK remains a full member, entitled to all the benefits and obligations of membership of the EU."

HMG has sought to calm expat fears.

"The government has made clear that we want the legal rights of British nationals living in European countries, as well as EU nationals in the UK, to be properly protected.”

Brief sections on travel, passports, healthcare, property and pensions are on the site. Additionally, there is information on dual citizenship.

Sadly, following Brexit, the Iberians with their centuries old grievances - Spain with its Gibraltar issue and Portugal its Ultimatum humiliation will not change one iota for the better.

The same jokers in what passes for public administration in these countries who made it so pointless for the British to establish themselves here - are still behind their desks. Not re-trained. Not re-oriented. Not remotely aware that the citizens of a fine country with a great tradition of fair play and decency that so supports their own country folk in the UK - have suffered so much at their hands here.

"after a majority of British people opted…" Well Ed, those who voted to leave were around 17m; and the population of the UK is 65m, not counting British ex-pats. Around a quarter of British people.

"a majority of those Britons who voted…" would be a more accurate description.
