Pedrógão Grande - EDP and Ascendi executives among 12 accused

FireLeiriaSmallCarsThe Public Prosecution Service in Leiria has accused twelve people named in the report into the Pedrógão Grande fire last July which also tore through Castanheira de Pera, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Alvaiázere and Ansião.

The defendants stand accused, variously, of negligence and negligent homicide.

Head-on collision near Ourique leaves two dead

Another head-on collision on Portugal’s roads, this one on the IC1 near Ourique, in which two people died just after 2am on Thursday morning.

The crash, near the Monte Negro junction at Panóias, was between two good vehicles, one was transporting meat. Both drivers died at the scene.

Amorim consortium the only bidder for Herdade da Comporta

ANA - 'Ryanair is free to leave Portugal at any time'

ANA’s Chief Executive, Thierry Ligonnière, explained to Parliament that the Irish airline has no contractual obligation to continue to fly in and out of Portugal and can withdraw whenever it wanted to.

PM takes hard line over taxi strike

Portugal’s taxi drivers have been holding protests since last November, mainly in Lisbon, Faro and Porto, against the new law that comes into effect on November 1st and which they want to see amended to their advantage.

Teacher gets 18 years for sexually abusing pupils

schooladpA teacher, who has been held in detention since November last year, has been found guilty of sexually abusing pupils at a school in Beja.

The 48-year-old man has been convicted of abusing four children and mistreated another between 2015 and 2017 at the school in the village of Salvada, Beja.

Faro Council pilots 'Tele-assistance' service for elderly residents

In October, the free of charge service will start to be commissioned in a partnership between the Council and Helpphone, a Porto-based company.

Rogil wildfire fanned by brisk wind

fireA wildfire this afternoon near Rogil, Aljezur, is being dealt with by over 200 fire service personnel as strong winds push the fames across forested countryside.

The alert was given at 1:20 pm. the fire had started on land the between Feiteira Industrial Zone and Rogil. Firefighters from several stations soon were dealing with a blaze that had spread to pine trees and scrub near Carrascalinho, Rogil.
