Turismo de Portugal boss owns a tourist accommodation rental company

turismodeportugallogoLuís Araújo, the national tourist authority’s president, is a part-owner of a company that leases rooms to tourists, but has assured the media that this presents "no incompatibility" with his daytime job.

Araújo owns 15% of the shares in Casas do Barão Lda., a company that owns a building in the Chiado area of Lisbon that lets rooms to tourists and is able to buy and sell property and offer 'consultancy services' which Araújo is well placed to do when considering his daytime job. The majority partner of Casas do Barão Lda., is Araújo’s husband.

Araújo’s  “no incompatibility" claim will be looked at his boss, the Secretary of State for Tourism, who will be well aware that Turismo de Portugal is part of the working group involved in creating local accommodation (AL) regulations and that it has supervisory powers.

Araújo told Público that the situation would only be serious if he took advantage of the position, which he says he has not done.

Turismo de Portugal is a ‘special regime public institute’ and, therefore, its managers "must declare their interests and be prevented from taking part in deliberations in which they could have an interest."

The tourist authority’s code of conduct states that employees "can not intervene in the appraisal or in the decision-making process, whenever procedures, acts or contracts in which the spouses, relatives or relatives are directly or indirectly interested."

This kind of things only happen in "real banana republics" Portugal is a very good example of it. See the latest gimmic: where is the MONEY the population donated in favor of the brave fireman that risked their lives in the (criminal) fires that struc so heavily the country ???? This is scandalous and outregeous... but unfortunately nobody dares to speak ... as they all licked the milk !

And how and why was he appointed? Did the appointing panel not know of the conflict of interest? If not, why not?

Rules are rules and need to be respected - othrwise the governement loses every respect. Conclusion: as this guy is incompetent and trespasses the rules throw him out immediately !

This guy could get any Tourism licence he wanted with just a phone call. Many of us wait years then give up in disgust at the blatant obstruction!
So what are this guys antecedents - whose elite family is he connected to? There are still far too many elite Portuguese, inter-related with genuine oligarchs lurking - pulling their strings, in the background. At the seaside Punch & Judy at least we could see the strings attached to the puppets and the sign above tells us its a Puppet Show. In Portugal the puppets get elected and it is called Government !

I do not understand.... TdP boss has its own AL but is not able to make a decent law or a correct and practical instruction for running AL in a professional way. Does he run TdP in the same dramatic, chaotic, luducrous and amateur way as the AL ?
Anyway now at least we understand auite well the reason and the set up of some of the TdP products ...
What a weard world is this .

Not another corrupt'able... Can anyone list a single Portuguese industry that isn't tainted by stealing, deceit or corruption?

Does this chap even know the meaning of the term "conflict of interest"? I suggest that he is too thick to do this job, and he should carry on working for his husband.
