Olhão's annual pest control excercise - council asks for residents' help

ratOlhão council is to start its annual pest control exercise at the beginning of May and asks the public to help so that a coordinated attack on the area's intruders can be launched.
 
The council area's bins will be sprayed to kill cockroaches and sewers laid with bait to kill rats. The work will be carried out in different zones across the municipality until May 18th.

Moncarapacho's olive oil wins ten Gold awards in Japan and USA

olivesThe Extra Virgin Olive Oil Monterosa, produced in Moncarapacho by Viveiros Monterosa Lda, has won ten gold medals at two international competitions.
 
At the New York International Olive Oil Competition in New York, Monterosa olive oils won five medals. Earlier in the week, at Tokyo’s Olive Japan 2018 in Tokyo, the oils won five awards.

Beware the winds of Funchal - holidaymakers spend 15-hours not landing

easyjetA couple from Wales, travelling to Funchal for a holiday break, spend 15 hours not arriving in Madeira, ending up back where they started - Bristol airport - which, although pleasant enough, does not compare favourably with the flower-decked slopes of the scented Portuguese island.

Paul and Ana Davies, 71 and 60, were heading Madeira on Monday to enjoy a week's holiday. They left their home in Wales at 4.30am and caught the three hour easyJet flight which left on time at 07.30am.

According to the latest pollution standards, Euro 6 (2014, for light passenger and commercial vehicles - 459/2012/EC) which came into force in 2015, emissions of nitrogen oxide may not exceed 80 milligrams per kilometre, but in Portugal’s urban areas, a reading of 641 mg / km has been recorded.
