EN125RoadSurfaceRoadside advertising hoardings along a section of the eastern Algarve EN125 warn motorists that the road has been abandoned by the government.
 
The municipal councils of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, in conjunction with the citizens movement of EN125 users, launched the awareness campaign to warn all comers of the dire state of the road.

Lighthouse open days - free entry to many fine examples

lighthouseAs part of the Navy Day 2018 celebrations, between May 12th and 20th, many of Portugal’s lighthouses will be open to the public.
 
On the mainland, between 2:00 p.m. and 5 p.m., the following lighthouses will be open: Montemor, Leça, Cabo Mondego, Penedo da Saudade, Berlenga, Cabo da Roca, Cabo Espichel, Cabo Sardão, Cabo de São Vicente - Sagres, Alfanzina, Santa Maria - Faro and Vila Real de Santo António.
 

Faro's Neptune elevated to National Treasure status

NeptumeMosaicThe Roman mosaic of Neptune, God of the Sea, that is on display at the municipal museum in Faro, has been elevated to the status of a National Treasure at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 3rd.
 
This recognition is the highest category under the Portuguese system and is a first for the Algarve region – in fact there was nothing with this coveted status south of Évora.
