Advertising billboards warn drivers of chronic state of eastern EN125

Roadside advertising hoardings along a section of the eastern Algarve EN125 warn motorists that the road has been abandoned by the government.

The municipal councils of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, in conjunction with the citizens movement of EN125 users, launched the awareness campaign to warn all comers of the dire state of the road.

Lighthouse open days - free entry to many fine examples

As part of the Navy Day 2018 celebrations, between May 12th and 20th, many of Portugal’s lighthouses will be open to the public.

On the mainland, between 2:00 p.m. and 5 p.m., the following lighthouses will be open: Montemor, Leça, Cabo Mondego, Penedo da Saudade, Berlenga, Cabo da Roca, Cabo Espichel, Cabo Sardão, Cabo de São Vicente - Sagres, Alfanzina, Santa Maria - Faro and Vila Real de Santo António.

Faro's Neptune elevated to National Treasure status

The Roman mosaic of Neptune, God of the Sea, that is on display at the municipal museum in Faro, has been elevated to the status of a National Treasure at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 3rd.

This recognition is the highest category under the Portuguese system and is a first for the Algarve region – in fact there was nothing with this coveted status south of Évora.

"Let your voice be heard" - Alagoas Brancas wetland site Public Consultation information

The Alagoas Brancas environmental group, working for a better future for the wetland area in Lagoa, ask Portuguese and foreign residents and visitors, especially those in the Lagoa Council area, to take part in the public consultation that ends on May 21st.

There is information below but the process it simply to let your views be known: the maintenance and development of a unique wetland area that gave 'Lagoa' its name, or to allow a Continente supermarket to built on the site which then will be lost for ever.

Ricardo Salgado implicated in multi-billion oil revenue fraud

The murky past of Ricardo Salgado is starting to receive the bright light of exposure as his dealings with Venezuela’s state-owned oil company now is in the spotlight.

The use of a covert Grupo Espírito Santo company, the now-infamous ES-Enterprises, to pay an estimated €100 million to 30 offshore companies was part of a successful plan to divert billions from Petróleos de Venezuela.

Fernanda Câncio, the journalist and ex-girlfriend of José Sócrates, has broken cover in an explosive revelation published today in Diário de Notícias.

Portugal to lose €3 billion EU grant income in post-Brexit budget

Negotiations have begun for the next round of EU funding for 2020/2027 with Portugal potentially losing 10% to 15% of its EU grant income compared to the current contribution level.

Weekly pundit on SIC, Luis Marques Mendes, said the cut in EU funds to Portugal could be as much as €3 billion due to the three key criteria of migration, climate change and unemployment.
