All Saints Anglican Church Algarve Almancil remembers

ALL SAINTS ANGLICAN CHURCH ALGARVE ALMANCIL REMEMBERSALL SAINTS ANGLICAN CHURCH ALGARVE ALMANCIL REMEMBERSLast Sunday, on the 14th November 2021, All Saints Anglican Church Almancil, led the community in a solemn act of remembrance for all those who had given their lives in war in the service of their Country.

During the service traditional hymns were sung, prayers were offered for all servicemen, service women and their families, who still carry the scars from their service in many wars. At 11am, a screen showed the commemoration from The Royal Albert Hall where the last post sounded, showers of poppy petals were released, a 2- minute silence was observed, which was broken only by the sound of Reveille.

The Remembrance Day Service has its origins in Armistice Day, which was dedicated in Great Britain on Nov. 11, 1919, in commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the peace agreement that ended World War I. On that date King George V requested the country pause in silence for two minutes in acknowledgment of the war’s fatalities. “Remembrance Day is a special day that All Saints has always observed and it’s treasured by the entire Congregation, which now includes all nationalities and backgrounds.” said Janet Martin, Warden of All Saints Almancil “ This year, however, was especially poignant as we were unable to meet together last year due to the Pandemic , and this year all we all wore our poppies with pride as a symbol of remembrance and hope”.
